PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Bureau of Non-point Pollution Control (BNPC) is responsible for the location, design, construction and installation of onsite wastewater treatment systems that discharge less then 2,000 gallons per day of sanitary sewage. The bureau provides oversight to boards of health and local health departments through the "Standards for Individual Subsurface Sewage Disposal Systems" (N.J.A.C. 7:9A- Chapter 199). The bureau also offers significant outreach to health departments and citizens to ensure that onsite systems are properly constructed and maintained in order to protect the quality of our state's ground water.

PERMITTING RESPONSIBILITIES:
The BNPC is responsible for reviewing and approving or denying Alternate Design Septic System Treatment Works Approval applications. These permits are required before a local health department can issue a construction approval for a septic system that does not conform to the regulations “Standards for Individual Subsurface Sewage Disposal Systems."
