DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION TO HOLD JOB FAIR FOR MILITARY VETERANS ON SEPTEMBER 17th

(14/P94) TRENTON – A job fair for military veterans sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and including the New Jersey Environmental Infrastructure Trust (EIT), will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the DEP headquarters building on 401 East State Street in Trenton.

Veterans seeking employment are encouraged to attend the event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the first floor public hearing room. Although registration is due by Monday, Sept. 8th, walk-ins are welcome.

In addition to DEP and EIT representatives, the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development and the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs will have staff on site to answer questions and provide information. Also, DEP “Veteran Ambassadors’’– veterans from various branches of the military now working at the DEP – will be on hand to help guide prospective employees through the process.

“We currently have 91 veterans working at the DEP and are committed to hiring more of these dedicated men and women, who have served their country so well,’’ said DEP Commissioner Bob Martin. “We strongly encourage veterans seeking employment to attend the job fair and take a look at what we might offer them, and to suggest how they can help us.’’

Candidates can apply for DEP and EIT jobs in more than 20 areas, including everything from clerical, human resources, information technology and risk management jobs to State Park Police officers, forest fire observers, research scientists, communications operators and environmental engineer trainees.

Information sessions will be held on various topics, including: veterans’ benefits; veterans’ preferences; job specifications; tips for filling out applications; and preparing for interviews.

“Helping military personnel transition back to civilian employment and assisting veterans secure new jobs has been a priority for the Christie Administration,’’ said Labor Commissioner Harold J. Wirths. “We have more than 40 veteran representatives on our staff, many of whom are veterans themselves, to link service people to employers who are deeply interested in the experience and work ethic they bring to a business. It is the least we can do for those who sacrificed so much for our country.”

Veterans attending the job fair should bring their civilian/military photo ID and their resume, and should dress “business casual.’’ To register for Civil Service Veterans Preference, please bring your DD214.
