Silver Track Program for Environmental Performance

At this time, the Department is not accepting applications for the Silver Track Program.

The Silver and Gold Track Program for Environmental Performance (Silver Track) is a voluntary initiative designed to encourage industry to adopt results-based management principles. Silver Track is a comprehensive, multi-media approach that encourages pollution prevention and environmentally responsible behavior, requires accountability, measures environmental performance, provides operational flexibility and produces environmental results.

Implemented in September 1999, Silver Track is designed to provide a moderate level of operational flexibility and permitting assistance to those facilities that meet the eligibility criteria and can commit to "going beyond" standard regulatory compliance. In exchange, participants would be offered the following incentives from the NJDEP: public recognition, a single point of contact within the NJDEP, expedited permit processing and consolidated reporting.

To date, ten facilities have been accepted into the Silver Track program. The individual facility's commitments and incentives are memorialized in five-year covenants with accountability mileposts that were jointly developed between the facility and the Department. The commitments and incentives under Silver Track are consistent with and authorized by existing regulations.
