2009 Online Real Estate License Renewals

In March of 2008, the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance implemented online processing for Real Estate Salesperson and Real Estate Broker-Salesperson transfers and terminations. Many Real Estate Brokers have already registered and are processing these transactions online. Approximately 1,000 transactions per month are now processed online.

The online processing for all Real Estate license renewals is expected to be launched on or about April 1, 2009

NOTE that there will be NO paper renewals for the 2009-2011 licensing period. If you are already a registered user of the Real Estate Online Services, you will have access to online renewal processing as soon as that feature is activated.

2009 Online Renewal Highlights
  • Online renewal processing expected to be launched on or about April 1, 2009
  • NOTE: There will be NO paper renewals for the 2009-2011 licensing period
  • All required renewal fees must be paid online with a credit card or an electronic check
  • Confirmation of the successful completion of a renewal will be e-mailed
  • Renewed licenses will be printed and mailed within 7 to 10 business days

If you have not yet registered for Real Estate Online Services, it is essential that you complete that process as soon as possible. Your license renewals will NOT be able to be processed except via the online application. All required renewal fees must be paid online with a credit card or an electronic check.

The online renewal process, like the existing online features for transfers and terminations, will make the completion of these transactions easier and faster. Confirmation of the successful completion of a renewal will be provided immediately via e-mail to the e-mail address provided by the broker. Renewed licenses will be printed and mailed within days of the completion of an online renewal.

You should register for the Real Estate Online Services as soon as possible but no later than March 31, 2009 to avoid any delays in the processing and receipt of renewed licenses. Your cooperation is key to the success of the 2009 online renewal processing.

Real Estate License Transers/Terminations

It is with great pleasure that the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance announces the implementation of a new online capability for the processing of Real Estate Salesperson and Real Estate Broker-Salesperson transfers and terminations.

The online application permits licensed Real Estate Brokers, both Brokers of Record and Employing Brokers, to terminate individual Real Estate Salespersons and Broker-Salespersons over the Internet.  Brokers are also able to transfer eligible Real Estate Salespersons and Broker-Salespersons to their company through an online process that involves payment of required fees with a credit card or an electronic check.

Real Estate transfers are performed to allow a Broker of Record (RB) or Employing Broker (EB) to transfer a licensee from one business entity to another. A business entity is a Corporation (CO), Partnership (PA), Employing Broker (EB), Limited Liability Company or Limited Liability Partnership. A licensee can be a Salesperson (SP) or Broker/Salesperson (SB).

Please Note:
  • All terminations/transfers must be completed by an active Broker of Record (RB) or Employing Broker (EB)
  • A Broker of Record (RB)/Employing Broker (EB) cannot terminate themselves
  • Only Saleperson (SP) or Broker-Salesperson (SB) license types can be transferred or terminated online
  • Online transfers are not allowed unless the license of a Salesperson (SP) or Broker-Salesperson (SB) has been terminated (inactivated) by their current Broker of Record (RB) or Employing Broker (EB)
  • Changes may be viewed by accessing the NJDOBI Licensee Search the day following the completion of any online transfers or terminations

Real Estate terminations allow a Broker of Record (RB) or Employing Broker (EB) to terminate (inactivate) a Salesperson or Broker-Salesperson currently employed with their company.

The new online process makes the completion of these transactions easier and faster.  Confirmation of the successful completion of a termination or a transfer is provided immediately via e-mail to the e-mail address provided by the broker.  Terminations and completed transfers are able to be viewed on the NJDOBI Licensee Search page available on the Department’s web site the day following the completion of the online transaction.
