Christie Administration Continues Season of Service As
Acting Banking and Insurance Commissioner, Acting Treasurer
Serve Meals, Announce Grant at Rescue Mission of Trenton

TRENTON — Continuing the Christie Administration’s fifth annual Season of Service, Department of Banking and Insurance Acting Commissioner Richard J. Badolato and Acting Treasurer Ford M. Scudder yesterday visited the Rescue Mission of Trenton and announced that the facility had been awarded a $270,000 Shelter Support Grant to install an elevator in its two-story shelter.  As part of the visit, Acting Commissioner Badolato, Acting Treasurer Scudder and members of their staffs also prepared and served lunches to local residents at the Rescue Mission.

“It was a pleasure to announce this grant and work with Acting Treasurer Scudder and Rescue Mission staff to serve Trenton residents during the holiday season,” said Acting Commissioner Badolato. “The Rescue Mission has a long history of providing vital services to Trenton area residents and it was a privilege to be a part of that.”

“The Rescue Mission of Trenton has been an important institution in the State Capitol for over 100 years,” said Acting State Treasurer Ford Scudder. “I’m happy to see this grant extended here today, and reminded of the significant duty public officials in our state have in providing support for these community services despite competing budget needs.”

The Shelter Support Program, administered by the Department of Community Affairs, provides funding to emergency shelters and transitional housing facilities to address life safety issues; abate code violations; create new beds; and purchase equipment, furnishings and vans to improve the living conditions for shelter residents. In the current fiscal year there are a total of 24 grants including the one awarded to the Rescue Mission.

The Rescue Mission of Trenton, at 98 Carroll Street, was founded in 1915, and provides meals, addiction, health and emergency services and education to local residents.
