Sign in at the front office and obtain a visitor's pass. Meet with the principal upon arrival and prior to departure.

What You Should Know About This School


Academic Excellence

  • Implemented a major change in schedule – all core academics now meet for 50 minutes daily.  Writing and research courses were added to the related arts rotation, and activity period time increased to five days a week. 
  • Implemented a house system where a core group of teachers (mainstream & special education) teach only 100 students. Teachers also have common meeting time which has increased cross-curricular planning. Students receive appropriate, differentiated instruction in the least restrictive environment. 
  • Special education professionals are part of each grade’s team and meet with them to provide the most appropriate education for each student.  
  • Peer coaching, peer mentoring, and teacher training programs with student teacher and practicum opportunities are available for teachers.  Newly developed professional learning communities allow teachers to share best practices and maintain awareness of the latest research and technology applications.

Developmental Responsiveness

  • Advisory program – the faculty mentors a group of 12 students, (6th, 7th & 8th, graders), to provide a place where students can break down grade level barriers, build a community of learners, and have opportunities for voice.  
  • Peer tutoring program has been expanded and all teachers are now available for daily one-on-one support.
  • School participates in the Rutgers University Developing Safe and Civil Schools program, expanding student voice in providing a positive climate.
  • Circle of Friends program provides opportunities for students to develop positive relationships.

Social Equity

  • Instruction is differentiated to meet the needs of all students.   
  • Increased opportunities in math - all students are able to study algebra, with some completing geometry in the 8th grade.

 Organizational Structures and Support

  • Quarterly progress report and report cards & grade books are available online.  District maintained student folders to track progress are currently being developed.
  • Staff are part of the district-wide review of assessment practices and homework assignments.
  • Informational programs are offered to parents, in collaboration with the local police department and county prosecutor’s office.
