As shown on the figure below, New Jersey students outperformed the nation as a whole and all other states and jurisdictions except one.

In 2007, the New Jersey scale score (175) was higher than the nation's public school (154), higher than 43 states, and not significantly different from the Connecticutt (172) scale score
