Ms. Gottling, a third generation teacher, graduated from Bryn Mawr and received her MA from Teachers College. She believes that mathematics is thinking deeply about simple things and that every child can learn with true understanding. She recently traveled to Japan to study with exceptional educators from all over North America, and she spearheads a teachers’ lesson study group at George Washington School in Mahwah, N.J. She recently secured a $5,000 NEA grant to collaborate with William Paterson College. Over her 26 years in education, she has presented at national conferences, most recently at AERA in 2008.

An avid tennis player, Ms. Gottling has a patient husband, two teenagers and two dogs who keep her feet warm as she prepares her lessons.
