Elliott Karetny teaches biology and environmental science at Timber Creek High School in Erial, NJ. His experiences in oncology and paleontology inspire him to develop lessons that offer students opportunities to practice real science through authentic, hands-on investigations.
Elliott approaches education "socio-scientifically". He advises a Science Club and built a rain garden that doubles as an outdoor classroom. He conducts workshops on inquiry, flipped classrooms, and interdisciplinary instruction. A curriculum writer and teacher-trainer in evaluation, he reaches beyond the classroom as a member of the inaugural NJ Teacher Advisory Panel.
Elliott has B.A. degrees in biology and English from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.S. in zoology from Auburn University, and an M.S. in biology from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a doctoral candidate at Rowan University.
