Educator Recognition

New Jersey Teacher of the Year Program

2010-2011 New Jersey State Teacher of the Year

Maryann Woods-MurphyEver since she was a little girl, Danielle Kovach always knew in her heart that she wanted to be a teacher.  After receiving her B.S. in special education and elementary education from Kutztown University, her childhood dream was fulfilled when she was hired as a special education teacher by the Hopatcong School District in Hopatcong, New Jersey.  She currently is a third grade special education teacher at the Tulsa Trail School in Hopatcong.
Danielle went on to earn her first Master’s Degree in special education from East Stroudsburg University.  Following that, she earned her second Master’s Degree in educational technology from New Jersey City University.

Throughout her ten years of teaching, Danielle has received over $35,000 in grants for her school and classroom.  Because of her love for technology, she has earned Tulsa Trail School the recognition of being a SMART Showcase School, one of two in New Jersey.  Most recently, she has been awarded a $10,000 classroom makeover for her dedication to keeping children safe from child predators through her program, “Superheroes of Safety.”

Danielle’s greatest reward as a teacher is the assurance that she has not only made a difference in the lives of her students, but has also made an impact on those around her.  Her role as a teacher does not begin, nor end in the classroom.  It is all encompassing, in every facet of her life.
