2009 Mahatma Gandhi Art and Writing Contest

Association of Indians in America, South Jersey Chapter, is pleased to announce the top 20 contestants that participated in 2009 Mahatma Gandhi Art and Writing Contest. AIA - SJ Executive committee would like to express great appreciation and would like to thank all the Principals, Teachers and Students that took the time and effort to participate in this worthy cause to raise awareness on the importance of "change" and Gandhi's message on non violence, racial harmony and peace.

This year more than 2500 students from middle and high schools participated. The Executive Committee is very pleased to see the increasing interest in Gandhian philosophy which is evident from an exponentially rising number of contestants every year.

The top three from Art and Writing categories will be announced on Oct 4th from this list of 20 finalists. The list provided below is not in any order and final ranks will only be announced on Oct 4th, 2009. The top three students from Middle and High schools will be recognized in front of a live audience and will be awarded a certificate of accomplishment along with cash awards ranging from $150 to $300. We encourage and highly recommend that the students that are in the top 20 should attend the program on Oct. 4th 2009 at 4PM. The 2009 Mahatma Gandhi birth anniversary celebrations and award ceremony will be held at the Friend Center, corner of Olden Street and William Street, Princeton University, Princeton, NJ. Seating will be limited and preference will be given to students, teachers and principals of the top 20 students below, please RSVP via email aaaferoz@gmail.com or to the following AIA-SJ Executives:

The New Jersey Holocaust Commission is an autonomous body operating under its own policies and positions. It acts as a resource to the Department of Education to assist schools with various aspects of meeting the requirements of the mandate to provide Holocaust and genocide education. The commission provides curriculum outlines and suggested activities; identifies and publicizes demonstration sites for other districts to contact; and recommends informational resources and materials for teachers and students to use in the state.
