Early Literacy: Workshops |
| | Literacy for ELLs (for all audiences, but especially primary teachers) – This full day (at least 5 hours) in-depth training explores native language, ESL reading and transition to the English only program. Phonemic awareness, graphemic transfer, comprehension are all explored in depth with full audience participation. |
| | IEL: Focus on Phonics and Vocabulary – This 2 hour workshop is designed for classroom teachers, literacy coaches, and language arts supervisors. This session focuses on the importance of phonics and vocabulary development in relation to the Intensive Early Literacy model. |

Comprehension – This is a 1½ to 2 hour workshop on going beyond the literal questions. Very hands on, interactive with the audience. |

Improving Comprehension Through Strategy Instruction – This workshop is intended for classroom teachers, literacy coaches, and language arts supervisors. It is a 2 hour workshop that explores comprehension strategies that can be used before, during, and after reading. Participants will take part in demonstration lessons and will be able to take these instructional strategies back to their classrooms. |

Strategies and Techniques – This is a 2 hour workshop intended for primary teachers on what really works and what doesn’t. |

Selection and use of classroom libraries – This is a 2 to 2½ hour workshop on how to select books, why, how to use them for multipurpose and especially on connecting them to the writing process through reader response. |

Word Wall – This is a 1½ to 2 hour workshop on the use of Word Walls, what to include, vocabulary development and how to use them for multipurpose and how to connect them to the writing process. |

The Art of Conferencing with Students – This workshop is intended for classroom teachers, literacy coaches, and language arts supervisors. It is a 1½ hour workshop that encompasses the research and rationale of conferencing with writers. Participants will learn effective techniques and practical tips to support and impact all writers in the classroom. |

Journal Writing – This workshop is intended for classroom teachers, literacy coaches, and language arts supervisors. It is a 2 hour workshop that focuses on various types of journal writing and its effectiveness with all students. Participants will take part in journal writing activities and will explore the many uses of journal writing across the curriculum. |

Process Writing – Intended for classroom teachers. This is usually a series of 2 to 2½ hour workshops over time. The focus is on the overview and critical components of process writing; pre-writing and 1-3-1 , revising and conferencing, and a final one on publishing. |

How to organize the 90 minute block (for all audiences) – This 2 to 2½ hour workshop explores the state model for setting up the classroom, dedicating time to different components, strategies and techniques, and working with a co-teacher. |
