Upon learning that the New Jersey General Assembly had given final legislative approval of S-200/A-2041, The Educational Facilities Construction and Financing Act, Department of Education Commissioner David Hespe said:
"The Department of Education is very grateful for the General Assemblys passage of this landmark legislation. It is not just a record allocation of financial support for school facilities, but another affirmation of Governor Whitmans commitment to investing in our most precious resource our children. The department is committed to expediting its review and approval of school facilities plans and construction projects across the state. At the same time, we are prepared to work closely with the Office of the Inspector General and other state departments to ensure that all project management, financing and procurement is done wisely and efficiently. All reviews by my department will be rigorous and thorough, and every school district receiving aid will be held strictly accountable for its use of public funds."
