Department of Education Releases Guide to Governor’s Awards in Arts Education

The Department of Education has just published and distributed a guide to assist local educators in identifying talented students and leaders in arts education. The Guide to the Governor’s Awards in Arts Education summarizes more than 65 awards available, the deadlines for participation, the selection criteria and the contact persons.

The New Jersey Governor’s Awards in Arts Education began 21 years ago. Co-sponsored by the Department of Education and the Alliance for Arts Education / New Jersey, the program highlights and recognizes the outstanding achievements of leaders in arts education and high school students throughout New Jersey. Nearly 100 students and educators are recognized at an annual awards ceremony.

"Each year, students and educators seek opportunities for rewards and recognition through their achievements in the arts," said Governor Christie Whitman. "This guide simplifies their search by combining multiple opportunities in a single document."

More information about the programs described in the guide can be obtained through local school principals or by visiting the Department of Education’s web-site:
