Acting Commissioner Vito A. Gagliardi has announced that the Department of Education will conduct three regional public hearings on the charter school program.
The hearing dates, locations and registration deadlines are as follows:
March 14, 2001 New Jersey Department of Education, 1st Floor Conference Room, 100 Riverview Plaza, Route 29, Trenton, 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (Register by March 13, 2001)
March 15, 2001 Seton Hall Law School, Auditorium, 1 Newark Center, Newark, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (Register by March 13, 2001)
March 19, 2001 Atlantic County Vocational School District, Vo-Tech Café, 5080 Atlantic Avenue, Mays Landing, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (Register by March 16, 2001)
Members of the educational community and the public may address representatives of the Acting Commissioner about charter schools by calling 609-943-3267 or 609-633-6967 between 8:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday. At the time of registration, prospective speakers should indicate whether they require any accommodations, such as a sign language interpreter or translator.
The hearings have been scheduled in accordance with a provision in the Charter School Program Act that requires the Commissioner to hold public hearings "in the north, central, and southern regions of the state to receive input from members of the educational community and the public on the charter school program."
