Commissioner of Education William L. Librera to Attend Cherry Hill Academy Launch

Commissioner of Education William L. Librera will be joined by Commerce Bank CEO Vernon Hill, Lucille Davy, Governor James E. McGreevey’s special counsel for education, Adam Pechter, CEO of Prosperity, NJ and other local and school officials to celebrate the inaugural year of the Cherry Hill and Commerce Bank Career Academy on Thursday, February 27 at 10:30 a.m.

The ceremony takes place at Commerce University, 17000 Horizon Way in Mount Laurel, just outside of Cherry Hill.

Career academies are being established throughout the state as part of Governor McGreevey’s efforts to improve how New Jersey students prepare for careers. Commerce Bank had extended its resources in the Cherry Hill Business Academy for Studies and Experience by providing advice and technical assistance in developing the academy program.

Career academies operate as partnerships among local schools, corporate sponsors, and higher education. The academies will introduce all of their students to their career specialty areas. Those students who wish to continue in the program will receive comprehensive instruction enhanced by the staff and resources provided by the corporate sponsor and the higher education partners.

Students graduating from the academies will have opportunities to pursue their specialty areas in a higher education program directly linked to their high school program. Participating colleges and universities include: Rutgers University, Drexel University and Camden County College.
