State Board of Education Reappoints Marion Bolden
as Newark State District Superintendent
The State Board of Education today re-appointed Marion Bolden as state district superintendent for the Newark Public Schools. Bolden begins her second three-year term as state district superintendent on July 1, 2003.
As chief school officer of New Jerseys largest school district, Bolden oversees daily operations of 76 schools that enroll 42,000 students.
Commissioner of Education William L. Librera recommended that the board reappoint Bolden.
"I am pleased to recommend with enthusiasm the appointment of Marion Bolden," Commissioner Librera said. "We need a very talented educator to lead in Newark, and she is a very talented educator.
"We have also heard with great clarity from the community about the positive work she has accomplished to improve education," Dr. Librera added.
Bolden was first appointed state district superintendent in 1998-99.
