ADVISORY: DOE Posts Unsafe School Choice Option Policy

In keeping with federally-mandated guidelines established by the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, the Department of Education (DOE) today posted its Unsafe School Choice Option Policy online. The policy can be found here: http://www.nj.gov/njded/grants/nclb/policy/unsafe.htm.

The intent of the federal statute and the DOE policy is to provide safety and security for students and to prevent unnecessary or extended interruptions to student learning. Compliance with the policy is a condition of receiving funds under any and all titles under the federal No Child Left Behind Act.

The policy contains two provisions that apply to local schools who receive NCLB funds: persistently dangerous and victims of violent criminal offenses. For more information about the policy, please click here: http://www.state.nj.us/njded/news/0618usco.htm
