State Board of Education Approves Commissioner’s Appointments
to Professional Teaching Standards Board and State Board of Examiners

The State Board of Education today approved the appointments of two new members of the New Jersey Professional Teaching Standards Board and one new member to the State Board of Examiners. Approved were Dr. Gerry Archuleta and Laura Strauber for the Professional Teaching Standards Board and Jerome F. Bohnert for the Board of Examiners.

Commissioner of Education William L. Librera appointed Dr. Gerry Archuleta, assistant principal at Shawnee High School, Burlington County and Laura Strauber, home economics area coordinator at Delaware Valley Regional High School, Hunterdon County, to fill two unexpired terms. Both terms expire on January 31, 2006.

The New Jersey Professional Teaching Standards Board is responsible for advising the Commissioner on a number of areas regarding the development and implementation of the state’s professional development initiative. State regulations require all active teachers and education services personnel in New Jersey to continue their professional development.

The board is responsible for oversight of the professional development provider registration system, and the development of professional standards and support to county and district level professional development committees.

The State Board also approved Dr. Librera’s appointment of Jerome F. Bohnert to fill an unexpired term on the State Board of Examiners. The State Board approved the appointment of Bohnert, school business administrator for Paramus, for a term that expires on September 15, 2005.

The State Board of Examiners is responsible for issuing, revoking and suspending educational certificates in accordance with state regulations. Members are appointed to two-year terms by the Commissioner of Education, with the approval of the State Board of Education.
