State Board Approves Appointment to the Professional Teaching Standards Board
The State Board of Education today approved the appointment of Dr. Carol Brown to the Professional Teaching Standards Board.
Dr. Brown, who was recommended for appointment by Commissioner of Education William L. Librera, is the associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Education and Sciences at Rider University. Her term expires January 31, 2005 with the opportunity for reappointment.
"We are so very pleased that the State Board has appointed Dr. Carol Brown," said Deputy Commissioner Dwight Pfennig, who is serving as Acting Commissioner this week for the vacationing Dr. Librera. "Her credentials and dedication to education make her a perfect fit for the standards board."
In addition to her position at Rider, Dr. Brown is the current president of the New Jersey Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. She replaces Dr. Ana Maria Schuhmann, who resigned this past spring.
The New Jersey Professional Teaching Standards Board is responsible for advising the Commissioner on a number of areas regarding the development and implementation of the states profession development initiative. State regulations require all active teachers and education services personnel statewide to continue their professional development.
The board is responsible for the oversight of the professional development provider registration system, as well as the development of professional standards and support for county and school district-level professional development committees.
