State Board Recognizes Student Peer Mediator from Atlantic County
The State Board of Education recognized Kelci Kile, a senior at Absegami High School of the Greater Egg Harbor Regional High School district in Atlantic County, as its October Student of the Month.
Kelci, a student leader in and outside of her high school, is a resident of Galloway Township. She is an outstanding peer mediator, serving this year as President of the Peer Mediation group at Absegami High School and has personally facilitated over more than 100 of the approximately 1,000 mediations conducted at the school during the past four years
"Kelci is a remarkable student who has provided an important service for her high school, and who also makes the community outside of Absegami High School a better place for all," said State Board President Arnold G. Hyndman. "Her commitment is an example of one person making a difference and improving the lives of many and we salute her actions."
"Kelci Kiles dedication to such an important task as peer mediation is a testament to what we hope all of New Jersey students strive to emulate, giving back to their community" said Commissioner of Education William L. Librera. "The attainment of high personal academic achievement and contributing to the development and achievement of ones fellow students should always merit special recognition and praise. I am pleased to join the State Board in this commendation."
During her years at Absegami, Kelci has also served as a member of the Peer-to-Peer Transition Team, a group of students who work to make certain that the incoming freshman and transfers into the high school understand what acceptable behaviors and attitudes are in a high school setting.
In addition to her valuable work, Kelci manages to find the time to also serve on her schools class council and as an aide in the guidance office.
Each month during the school year, the State Board recognizes a student or group of students for accomplishments in community service, the arts, academics, and sports. In June, the State Board honored Christine Cairoli, a senior at Lindenwold High School in Camden County.
