DOE Sponsors 3rd Annual Reading Coach Conference
The Department of Education is sponsoring its 3rd Annual Reading Coach Conference on Wednesday, May 25 at Rutgers, The State University-College Avenue Campus. The conference, entitled Side by Side: Working Together to Improve Literacy Instruction, is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM and ends at 3:00 PM.
Over 450 participants from all over the state have registered to participate. Current coaches and client teachers will present over 25 literacy topics and showcase the best practices being implemented in New Jersey that advance reading initiatives.
Some of the session titles include:
- Literacy Intervention-Where Do You Begin?
- Childrens Literature to Introduce Cultural Diversity
- The ABCs of Reading Strategies and
- Conflict Resolution Through Childrens Literature: A Lesson
- Some of the participating districts include Linden, Riverside, Old Bridge Township,
Brick Township, Phillipsburg, Park Ridge, and many more.
Several research studies and reports have documented the need for children to be good readers by the third grade. The conference has based its offerings on nationally recognized studies by the Rand Reading Study group and the Report of the National Reading Panel as well as the requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
