Side by Side: Working to Collaborate! Innovate! Educate!
is Theme of Fourth Annual Reading Coach Conference
The New Jersey Department of Education is sponsoring the Fourth Annual Reading Coach Conference tomorrow, May 25 at Rutgers University. The conference, entitled Side by Side: Working to Collaborate! Innovate! Educate! will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Rutgers’ College Avenue Campus.
More than 400 participants from throughout New Jersey have registered for the conference, at which current reading coaches and teachers them will present more than 25 literacy topics and showcase best practices being implemented in New Jersey that advance reading initiatives.
Session titles will include:
- Planning Units of Study in the Writing Workshop
- Teaching Comprehension Using Non-Fiction Text
- Literacy Coaching: Enhancing Learning and Achievement
- Effective Practices for English Language Learners
Included among the many school districts that will participate are: Buena Regional, Logan Township, Newark, Park Ridge and Princeton Regional.
Education research supports a connection between children who are good readers by the third grade and their future success in school and the workplace. The conference has based its May 25 program on nationally recognized studies by the Rand Reading Study Group and the Report of the National Reading Panel, as well as the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
