DOE Honors Top Educators, Programs and Schools in 2006
The top educators, schools and programs in 2006 were honored today during the Department of Education's annual Recognizing Educational Achievement and Leadership (REAL) programs at the Sheraton at Woodbridge Place Hotel in Iselin.
"These teachers and programs represent the best New Jersey has to offer," said Lucille E. Davy, Commissioner of Education. "We always focus on preparing New Jersey's children to enter a 21st century global economy. Our award-winning teachers and programs make this worthy goal a reality on a daily basis."
Thirty educators, including the 22 county Teachers of the Year and two Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award recipients, the finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, and the Title I Distinguished Educators were recognized at a ceremony in the morning.
The afternoon ceremony honored seven NCLB Blue Ribbon Schools, 30 Best Practices and one Star School.
