Department of Education Stops Another Superintendent Contract;
Westfield Board of Education Ordered to Void Improper Approval
In correspondence released today from Union Executive County Superintendent Carmen Centuolo to the Westfield Board of Education, the Department of Education made clear that a contract extension for the Westfield Superintendent of Schools has not been approved. The Board was ordered to void the contract no later than Dec. 15, 2010.
The action is similar to the Department’s cancellation of a similar improper contract agreement approved by the Parsippany school board last month. Acting Commissioner of Education Rochelle R. Hendricks has directed all Executive County Superintendents to conduct a comprehensive review of all superintendent contracts. Until such a review is completed, no contracts or contract extensions will be approved, and no contracts that expire after February 7, 2011, when proposed pay cap regulations will take effect, will be authorized unless they comply with the proposed regulations.
