Commissioner Chris Cerf Speaks to Superintendents in Jackson

Trenton, NJ –Department of Education Commissioner Chris Cerf spoke today to several hundred superintendents in Jackson about the Department's plan to close the state's persistent achievement gap. The event was hosted by the New Jersey Association of School Administrators (NJASA).
In the presentation, Commissioner Cerf presented data on the state's overall performance and persistent achievement gap over the past several years, discussed several Department initiatives to improve student achievement and efforts towards continued deregulation. Among others, Commissioner Cerf discussed initiatives to support the implementation of the Common Core State Standards, the development of a new state-wide accountability system offered through the state's No Child Left Behind waiver and a comprehensive educator effectiveness plan.
Commissioner Cerf was joined in the presentation by Chief Performance Officer Bari Erlichson, Chief Academic Officer Penny MacCormack, Chief Innovation Officer Evo Popoff and Chief Talent Officer Peter Shulman.
