Schools
that receive Title I funding (including funds used for before/after
school programs) must comply with the parent notification requirements
under No Child Left Behind. Parent notification requirements apply
to the entire school-whether or not the teacher is paid in whole
or in part by Title I funds or teaches within a targeted assistance
program. Notification is as follows:
September: A letter notifying parents regarding their rights
to inquire about teachers credentials is sent, if schools
receive Title I funds. See notification sample letter (Appendix
A in the manual).
December
1, 2003: Parents of students in Title I-funded programs should
have received a letter regarding the credentials of specific teachers
who have not yet satisfied the definition of a Highly Qualified
Teacher. See credentials sample letter (Appendix B in the manual).
The
letter with regard to credentials (or a modified version) must be
sent to any parent whose child has been instructed for four or more
weeks by a teacher who has not yet satisfied the definition of a
Highly Qualified Teacher.
