Sample Performance Assessment Task

14. Determine the density of the object using the materials provided. Record your data, show all calculations, and your answer.

Manipulatives:

  • One rectangular shaped
  • Block of material
  • Balance or scale
  • Ruler

_______________________________________

Answer: Using the ruler, measure and record the length, width and height of the rectangular object. From the reference sheet, use the volume formula to calculate and show the volume. Determine the mass of the object by using the balance or the scale and record the data. Finally, from the reference sheet, use the density formula, show the calculations of the density and the value of the density determined.

Explanation: “Data can be represented numerically and graphically. Matter is considered to be anything that has volume and mass.”
