and Editing" portion of the HSPA Language Arts
test uses a sample student essay to assess student
critical analysis and writing skills.
For this assignment,
you must complete two specific tasks related to preparing
your students for the "Revising/Editing"
portion of the HSPA:
- Identify and summarize strategies
for editing and revising both content and mechanics
in a guide or checklist for your students- the guide
should be based on the Revise/edit rubric
- Create two practice essays
to be revised/edited by your students to practice
applying the strategies you identified
The following
checklist will be used to score this Cluster 3 assignment:

The essays created/selected
are persuasive essays.

The essays are
ones which will appeal to a wide range of high
school students.

Practice prompt
directions are clearly worded.

The directions
include a scoring rubric based on the HSPA holistic
scoring rubric.

Your prompt includes
references to your strategies to be used to facilitate
the creative writing process.

A sample response
to each prompt is included that adheres to a "high"
score of 3 or 4 on the Revise/edit scoring rubric.
