| PowerPoint with a Purpose—Making Sense of Senses |
Activity After students have a basic understanding of how senses work, they will choose partners and be given a sense to animate. 1. Students should complete the “Sense Organizer” individually to show they have a thorough understanding of how the sense works and then share their ideas with their partner. 2. Using Microsoft PowerPoint 2002, students will choose clip art pictures that symbolize each part of the process but are not realistic in nature. Example: child’s drum to symbolize the eardrum. In addition, students may select arrows, lines and pointers to help illustrate how the process moves step by step. 3. Students should store all images on one slide that will serve as their “image bank.” 4. Students will create a title slide with the name of the sense and student names. 5. Students will create a slide to illustrate how the first step of the process works. Students will copy images (pictures) from the image bank and place them in approximate order. 6. Repeat #5 for each step in the sense process. 8. Students should present PowerPoint shows and explain each step in detail as it is displayed. 9. Using a smart board or active board will make the presentations more captivating. Students will develop a better understanding of how the senses work once they create their animated power point presentations.
