Power Point with a Purpose—Geometry Shapes Hunt

Activity

1. Take digital pictures of various rooms and places in and around the school building.

2. Students will insert one of the digital pictures taken into a Microsoft PowerPoint slide.  Students should enlarge the picture to be the same size as the slide.

3. Working with their partner students will identify the various shapes that they see in the picture.

4. Using the draw tool bar, students will outline each of the shapes they identified in step #3.

5. Encourage students to select colors to outline the shapes that are easy to see.  Students should change the width of the line so that the shape is obvious.

6. Students will apply appropriate (flashing) custom animation to each shape.  Example: to create a pulsing feeling, after selecting an animation, go to the timing tab and select the number of times it should repeat. (3-5 works well)

Assessment
Students will present their PowerPoint slide and name the shapes that they found.

After students have a basic understanding of various polygons and shapes, students will work in pairs to identify and animate various shapes within a picture.
