Extension Activities and Modifications
-
Students can insert appropriate background music to enhance the message or feeling suggested by the poem.
-
Students can record a narration of their poem and insert it into the Power Point presentation to play while the poem is scrolling on the screen.
-
A student could create a digital portfolio of all the poetry presentations and make copies for each student to have. Post on school Web site.
-
To celebrate the student work, plan a “Poetry Coffeehouse.” Invite important people (parents, administrators, Board of Education members etc.) and plan to serve refreshments. Encourage students to dress as "aspiring" writers. Students could create a program to hand out to guests with a brief biography of themselves and a digital picture. Have students write a press release and submit one to the school newspaper and local paper.
-
Consider if giving special needs students extra time, assistance and support from appropriate staff will result in a successful experience. Additional modifications could be made in which the special needs students choose one image as a background that the poem would scroll over instead of having multiple images appearing and disappearing.
