Teacher Collaboration

As the school year is pretty hectic, we meet over the summer to review how everything went and what we can do to improve upon the respective projects.  It is important that we expand upon topics covered in the 5th grade as we bring students up to a near high school level in the seventh grade. By providing a solid science foundation for important science concepts, students are able to recall those concepts and synthesize them into new situations in the seventh grade.  In terms of the video part of the project, time limits should be imposed otherwise the students will take a very long time to finish.  In addition, the seventh grade team now has a baseball unit in which each member does a baseball related lesson the week before the game.

Hints for new users of this project. Tricks for getting started

• Expand the project to other classes - have a Social Studies Idol or a Math Idol.
• The Seventh Grade does a cross curricular unit based on Baseball. (History, literature, angles, etc.)
• Have students design a web site or webquest for either project.
• Incorporate Macromedia Flash animation into project (done for a State Presentation but students have not incorporated as of yet).
• More PDA's - obtain a class set and have students take more data at the game. As it stands now, students only time a pitch or two. We complete a rigorous lab activity prior to this one in which students complete all necessary calculations to the point that this lab is second nature.
