Helpful Hints
  • Start small! At first, only change your favorite project from handwriting to the computer.
  • Then transfer end of chapter projects from your existing language series to word processing projects.
  • Think about science or social studies connections that the students can write about.
  • Don’t expect to finish projects quickly at first. Once the children are used to writing this way, things will speed up.

Tips for Younger Students:

  • Kindergartners and first graders benefit from adding words or sentences to already started pieces.
  • Save a template form for each child before the lesson begins.
  • Stop every ten minutes or so and have everyone click the save icon.
  • Have the class generate a list of important words for each assignment and give each child a copy.

Working with Intermediate Children:

  • Time spent learning to type is never wasted.
  • Channel competitive folks into increasing their speed and accuracy scores in typing!
  • Remind students to save every ten minutes!
  • Use cut, paste, and drag functions to make correcting work fun.
