Steps Needed to Initiate & Sustain Project
  • Plan ahead!
    • Ask administrators for support of flexible scheduling - in order to encourage staff collaboration.
    • Plan ample time for staff to confer.
    • Support of the technology coordinator is also essential to help with scheduling and to ensure the correct software is in place.
Ideal conditions in this project are:
  • A computer lab or classroom with enough computers to accommodate a school’s largest class.
  • A classroom with a minimum of three or four computers to act as a learning center
  • A word processing program with spell check and thesaurus features. Clip art and word art features are an additional benefit.
  • Younger students should not see grammar and spelling alerts: therefore features that make automatic corrections should be disabled.
More helpful resource information
  • This program is most successful with the assistance of Special Education and Basic Skills Improvement Program teachers right in the computer lab or the regular classroom. In this way students are able to work with on-level contemporaries as role models and partners.
  • This type of program will also be helpful to ELL- English Language Learners and GED- General Educational Development adult learners.
