Now that you have interpreted the GEPA Individual School Report and examined the results in context, the next step is to make sense out of the findings. Let's repeat our findings:

  • Monisha is "Proficient" in Language Arts but only "Partially Proficient" in Mathematics.
  • In comparing her math results to the class average, her scores are markedly lower in one specific content area only.
  • Monisha will need extra help in mathematics content area: Patterns and Algebra.
  • There were minimal external influences during the test day.

How can we help Monisha?

Assume you are her 8th grade teacher: If you are her 9th grade teacher:

Talk with her! Let's assume that Monisha tells us that she has difficulty understanding the subject matter within that standard (see standard 4.3 for grades 9 - 12) for details about the content.

It is important to look at the class results. How will you change your teaching for the upcoming year, based on examination of this one student in the context of the class?

Additional ideas: remember to talk to the parent, give extra materials, and spend a little extra time with Monisha. You could also pair one or more students with a good student to help work through some problems.

The GEPA results can act as a pre-test for your instructional program during the 9th grade year. See Assessment in the Classroom, Monisha's prior knowledge may be inadequate: so you need to give her extra preparatory and tutorial work.

There could have been other students in the class that scored as low as Monisha for this standard. If that is the case, a recommended course of action will include supplementary instruction, with a review of test items and activities that complement this standard.
