Targeted Assistance

A targeted assistance school generally identifies eligible children within the school on the basis of multiple, educationally related, objective criteria established by the LEA and supplemented by the school. The eligible population for services include the following:
  • Children not older than age 21 who are entitled to a free public education through grade 12.
  • Children who are not yet at a grade level at which the LEA provides a free public education.

Targeted Assistance - services provided to a select group of children--those identified as failing, or most at risk of failing.
   

Targeted Assistance Schools eight program components:

  • Assist students in reaching state standards
  • Based on effective means for improving student achievement
  • Ensure appropriate planning
  • Use instructional strategies effectively
  • Coordinate with and support regular education programs
  • Offer instruction by highly qualified staff
  • Provide professional development
  • Use strategies to increase parental involvement
