No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001

Title I represents the largest form of federal funding for elementary and secondary education programs. It targets funds to help students most at risk.

Its broad goals are as follows:

  • Helping Disadvantaged Children Meet High Standards
  • Prevention and Intervention Programs for Children and Youth

What does Title I funding do and where does it go? The funds are allocated as followsS:

  • Distributed to 60 percent of all New Jersey districts
  • Are supplemental funds to help schools meet the needs of educationally disadvantaged students
  • Directed to those students who are the lowest-achieving or at the highest risk for school failure
  • Based on increased accountability for the educational outcomes of all children
