The report of the U. S. Commission on Reading, Becoming a Nation of Readers, states that "the single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children."

The Read Aloud module is the first of a series of professional development modules. In addition to this web site, a videotape, CD or DVD along with a resource manual is available from the Office of Reading First or from the Department of Education Publication Office. Using the available media, educators can train others to use the techniques and suggestions. Teachers may play the full video or focus on one or more sections, as desired.
