Video-based Reading Strategies and Techniques: Fluency

Guidance - Readers Theater

Overview

In this segment of the video, the teacher conducts a Readers Theater activity. The students are divided into to groups to read certain portions of the story according to color codes. As the story progresses, each group reads their part of the story until the story is completed. This activity is handled like a play.

Classroom Activity: Observations

Notice how the teacher uses color-coded copies of the story with the children. This helps the students attend to the sections for which their individual small groups are responsible.

During the teacher reflection portion of the video segment, the teacher mentions two benefits of using Readers Theater: improvement in fluency, improvement in comprehension.
