Guidance - Reading While Listening

Overview

During this activity, students follow along as they listen to a taped version of a story. The teacher lets the class know she will ask questions afterward. This activity is presented at the beginning of the series of fluency activities.

Classroom Activity: Observations

Notice during the reflection portion of the video segment, the teacher refers to the taped version of the story as a model for how the passage should be read. It is important for the students to hear the teacher read to support fluent and authentic modeling of text reading.
