Overview

The teacher and students read the completed thank you note. Then she gives them an assignment to write their own thank you notes, modeling how the students will complete the activity. In the reflection portion of the video segment, she ends her comments by mentioning that interactive writing should always be purposeful. When interactive writing is purposeful, it's motivational for students.

Notice how the teacher encourages the students and focuses on some of the words in the story for a mini-lesson. During the time the students work independently, the teacher moves around the classroom and helps students as needed.
