Reading Aloud
Now that you've viewed the video and read the Guidance section of this module:
- Go to the Read Aloud Module for a closer examination of a read aloud session. View the Book Cover, During Reading, and After Reading video clips to see a classroom demonstration of the instructional strategies used.
- Select a story you would like to use for the Read Aloud and accompanying interactive writing activities. Would you like the story to have a cross-curricular emphasis? Would you like the story to come from the reading series you're using or a library book selected by the students?
- Look over the story with background knowledge and vocabulary development in mind.
- Think about what questions you would like to ask the students related to the book cover and the story itself.
- Decide what skills or concepts you want to develop during the interactive writing sessions. Remember not to overwhelm the class with too many skills/concepts. Use your curriculum and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS) as a guide for deciding what to teach, along with the needs demonstrated in the work of your students.
