Practice - Reading Aloud

Now that you've viewed the video and read the Guidance section of this module:

  1. Go to the Read Aloud Module for a closer examination of a read aloud session. View the Book Cover, During Reading, and After Reading video clips to see a classroom demonstration of the instructional strategies used.
  2. Select a story you would like to use for the Read Aloud and accompanying interactive writing activities. Would you like the story to have a cross-curricular emphasis? Would you like the story to come from the reading series you're using or a library book selected by the students?
  3. Look over the story with background knowledge and vocabulary development in mind.
  4. Think about what questions you would like to ask the students related to the book cover and the story itself.
  5. Decide what skills or concepts you want to develop during the interactive writing sessions. Remember not to overwhelm the class with too many skills/concepts. Use your curriculum and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS) as a guide for deciding what to teach, along with the needs demonstrated in the work of your students.
