Practice - Activating Prior Knowledge

Now that you've viewed the video and read the "Guidance" section of this module:

• Select a topic for class discussion. Think of topics you may discuss in other content areas (science, social studies, etc.). Use the puppet activity from the video clip, if you don't wish to use another topic.

• Create a whole class K-W-L chart.

• Divide the class into small groups.

• Give each group a piece of chart paper, having them write down what they know about the topic you've selected. Consider how you might modify this activity for different grade levels.

• With the information you gather from the students, select a book or books on that topic.

Or

• Use online educational resources to select a topic and develop a KWL chart that would simulate that which was mentioned in the video clip.
