Training

Training Information

NJ SMART will provide targeted training for all LEAs and users.  Please review the information below for a summary of offered trainings, dates and times, and how to access our WebEx presentation website.  A comprehensive training schedule will be emailed to NJ SMART users at the beginning of each month.

How do I participate in training?

Each training will be web-based and last approximately 60 minutes.  You do not need to register for a session in advance. Please be advised that NJ SMART has a new dial-in number and conference ID for training webinars. Simply follow these instructions:

  1. Log-on 5 minutes prior to the session start-time at http://pcgus.webex.com.
  2. Click on Meeting Center at the top of the home page. Then click on the Meeting Topic link that corresponds to the training session and time of your selected session.
  3. Enter your first name, last name, and the name of your district. (e.g. John Smith – Newark Public Schools)
  4. Enter the password. The password for each session is:  letmein
  5. To listen to the audio portion of the webinar, please call: 1-866-685-5739; Conference ID: 498 665 3806 #

Training Dates

Course Roster Submission Training – This training will provide information on NJ SMART’s newest submission for staff and student level course data. This training is required for all LEAs that are submitting to Course Roster Submission. Users will be presented information on the following:

  • NJ SMART reporting responsibilities
  • Required data elements and their validation rules
  • Understanding how staff files are linked to student files to form course records

Training Schedule:

May 09: 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM
May 17: 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM
May 21: 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM
May 30: 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM

CTE Submission Training - This course will provide detailed information specific to the CTE Submission, including an in-depth review of data elements and validation rules, and best practices for ensuring the highest CTE Submission data quality. This training is required for all LEAs that have a Career and Technical Education program.

High School Graduation Rate Training – This course will provide detailed information specific to the new High School Graduation District Reports.  This training is required for all LEAs and users. Topics include:

  • How graduation rates are calculated by NJ SMART
  • How to account for graduates, transfers, and dropouts in SID Management
  • How to run, interpret, and utilize these district reports

May 24: 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM
May 29: 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM

State Submission Training – This training will provide detailed information specific to the State Submission, including recommendations of how to utilize the Local Data Mart period, an in-depth review of new data elements and validation rules, and best practices for ensuring the highest State Submission data quality.  This training is required for all LEAs and users.

May 10: 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM
May 15: 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM
May 23: 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM

District Reports Training – This training is recommended for any user who is new to District Reports. This training is an introduction to the District Report features and functionality. Topics will include the following: 

  • Listing and defining reports that are currently available
  • Identifying source and availability of data in District Reports
  • How to access District Reports
  • Navigating, interpreting, and reading the District Reports

New User Training –This training will provide new users with an overview of the 2011-2012 NJ SMART submission cycles, review basic components that are common to most submissions, and highlight key features of district reports. This training is required for all new users. During this session, users will be introduced to:

  • NJ SMART reporting responsibilities
  • Basic NJ SMART data entry requirements and validation rules
  • Location and description of available user resources

SID Management Troubleshooting Training – This training will guide users on resolving various record errors encountered in SID Management. This training is recommended for advanced users who have already attended one or more trainings.Topics include the following and more:

  • Correcting out of sync records
  • Resolving students in conflict
  • Addressing various errors in student records
  • Understanding cross validation between SID Snapshot, State Submission, and Special Education Submission
