Professional Learning Communities
Resources for Educators

New Jersey educators may obtain access to Collaborative Professional Learning in School And Beyond: A Tool Kit for New Jersey Educators by sending an email to Teachpd@doe.state.nj.us.  Include the name of the school district or New Jersey affiliation making the request.

These professional learning materials are designed for use in professional learning communities (PLCs). The videos, powerpoint presentations and print documents for educators support the continuous improvement of teacher and school leader practices in schools. New Jersey educators may access these materials for use in school-wide, district-wide or team-based professional learning experiences, as well as in regional PLC networks.

TUNING PROTOCOLS – Download videos and materials by Lois Brown Easton

Workshop A: Examining Student Work
Workshop B: Analyzing Assignments

These two videos feature Lois Brown Easton, a national expert in PLC teaming processes, presenting two workshops on tuning protocols. She outlines the step-by-step procedures used by collaborative teams to refine vital components of effective instruction. Each 50-minute video is an abridged version of a full-day workshop led by Easton in 2011 for PLC teams in New Jersey. PLC teams and/or whole faculties can use the videos in whole or part to enhance the work of teams focused on student learning.

School Professional Development Committees (SPDCs) and Local Professional Development Committees (LPDCs) should collaborate regularly to communicate a collective vision for professional development and support the planning process at both the school and district levels. The SPDCs and LPDC are encouraged to view the two guidance webinars jointly and have discussions related to the respective roles of school committees and district committees. It is also important to establish a mechanism for ongoing collaboration among schools, the LPDC and central office administrators. You may send questions related to your plans to TeachPD@doe.state.nj.us.
