The Six Essential Components of Reading |

The five essential
reading components are the core of national K-3 reading programs.
New Jersey has added a sixth important strand. Teachers, tutors, reading
coaches and parents all need to be very familiar with all six components.
As you work with the components, please reference the reading
strands in the newly revised NJ Language
Arts Literacy Core Curriculum Content Standards and Put
Reading First: The Research Building Blocks for Teaching Children
to Read from the National Institute for Literacy (NIFL).
