SCHOOL NUTRITION PROGRAMS

In Health Is Academic: A Guide to Coordinated School Health Programs by Eva Marx, Susan Wooley, and Daphne Northrop schools are viewed as places where students are “learning to eat and eating to learn.”  Growing evidence shows that healthy eating is critical to child development and school performance.  School breakfast programs, healthy school lunches, and after school snacks are critical to ensuring that children are well-fed and ready to learn.  Wellness policies help schools establish concrete steps to support healthful eating in and out of school.
