Trenton, NJ – Acting Governor Kim Guadagno and New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (LWD) Commissioner Harold J. Wirths continued the Christie Administration’s ongoing support of the Garden State’s men and women in uniform, veterans and their families by joining the kick-off of the “Hiring Our Heroes” career fair at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (MDL).

“When men and women come back from war, they should not have to fight for jobs and they will not fight for jobs in New Jersey,” said Acting Governor Guadagno.  "Events like today’s career fair help us thank our heroes by connecting them to the jobs they need to live the American Dream they fought so hard for and deserve.”

Participants had the opportunity to meet with representatives from more than 55 companies, many of them national employers actively seeking to hire military people, including Coca-Cola, Comcast, Amtrak, Farmers Insurance, American Water, Starbucks Coffee Company, Prudential Financial, UPS Inc. and Sam’s Club.  Veterans, military personnel and their spouses were also provided with information on training programs and had an opportunity to participate in workshops on job techniques and translating their military experience into job skills.

“My department actively partners with the U.S Chamber and the American Legion at each of these ‘Hiring Our Heroes’ career fairs to make them as successful as possible.  We additionally sponsor and host several other employment events targeting veterans and active military personnel throughout the year because we believe providing employment opportunities is the least we can do for these heroes who have sacrificed so much for our nation,” said Commissioner Wirths.

Today’s “Hiring Our Heroes” job fair was co-sponsored by the U.S. Army Reserve, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and the American Legion with support from the LWD, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment & Training Service, NBC News and many other local partners.

According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, “Hiring Our Heroes” has hosted more than 825 hiring fairs in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia and helped more than 25,000 veterans and military spouses find jobs.
