Haemophilus influenzae, invasive disease (including Hib)

Hib disease, which is caused by the bacteria Haemophilus influenzae type b, can be serious, especially when it causes invasive diseases. Invasive disease means that germs invade parts of the body that normally are free from germs (such as the fluid around the brain and spinal cord).
